Beginning July 1, visitors and residents of Pinehurst will see new parking time limits in key areas of the Village as part of a broader effort to improve access, turnover, and traffic flow in downtown.
Adopted by the Village Council on Feb. 25, these updates are outlined in Ordinance #25-04, which amends Chapter 72 of the Pinehurst Municipal Code. The changes were designed to better serve downtown businesses, visitors, and the local community by ensuring parking availability throughout the day, said the Village in a media release.
What’s Changing?
1. Time-Limited Parking Zones Introduced:
*Cherokee Road (South side) – 1-hour limit in front of Given Memorial Library on weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
*Cherokee Road (North & South sides) – 3-hour limit from 90 to 155 Cherokee Rd.
*Chinquapin Road (North & South sides) – 3-hour limit between Cherokee Rd/Dogwood Rd and Magnolia Rd.
*Dogwood Road (East & West sides) – 3-hour limit in front of 5 Dogwood Rd.
*Market Square (North & South sides) – 3-hour limit for all public parking areas.
2. Clarified Parking Orientations:
Only vehicles under 18 feet may park in diagonal or perpendicular spaces. Vehicles must follow the orientation posted unless granted a temporary exception by the Village Manager for construction or special-use needs.
3. Fines and Enforcement:
Violators may be subject to a civil fine of up to $50, and in some cases, vehicles may be removed without notice to maintain pedestrian safety and public access.
Unrestricted Public Parking Available
To accommodate those needing longer parking durations, such as downtown employees or long-term visitors, two public parking lots in the Village Center will remain unrestricted:
*Public lot at 1 Village Green Road West (commonly called the Sandlot)
*Public lot next to the Pine Crest Inn on Dogwood Road
These lots will not be subject to time limits, and the Village encourages employees and long-term parkers to use these areas.
Supporting Downtown Access and Business
“These parking updates are a key part of keeping downtown Pinehurst accessible and thriving,” said Village Manager Doug Willardson. “Our goal is to support businesses and visitors by improving turnover and managing high-demand areas more effectively.”
The new parking rules will go into effect July 1.
