Anna Susan Wooten Grissom entered her eternal home on Saturday December 2, 2023 at her home in Creedmoor, NC.
“Sue”, as she was known by all, was born January 18, 1950 to Reverend Charles Wesley and Callie Wooten. She entered this life through love and she was surrounded by love her entire life.
A beautiful love story began in 1967, when she met David R. Grissom at Vass United Methodist Church, where Sue’s father was the pastor. The two were married in that church on July 10, 1971. Before their marriage, David accepted God’s call to ministry, thus beginning their service to God through the United Methodist Church. Their ministry continued for over 40 years. Sue was a profound servant, while educating children and adults through her teaching abilities. She began her profession in the elementary school system and ended her career as a Special Populations Director at Vance-Granville Community College in Henderson, NC. While teaching remedial reading in Hillsborough NC, Sue was named Orange County Teacher of the Year. Her teaching was a gift and her ministry.
In 1977, Sue and David were blessed with twin daughters, Kellie and Susanna, which made their family complete. Sue affectionately referred to them as “the girls.”
Sue and David retired to Creedmoor NC in 2012, to be close to their girls and grandchildren, Susanna Paige and David. Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 52 years, David; Daughters Kellie Grissom of Franklinton, and Susanna Grissom (Mark Scott) of Graham; Grandchildren Paige and David Ciferni of Franklinton; sister Charline Beck and her husband David of Seagrove; Brother-in-law Larry Allen of Whispering Pines; Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Paul and Evelyn Grissom of Indiana; Several adoring nieces and nephews. Proceeding her in death are her parents, Reverend and Mrs. Charles Wooten, her sister Christie Wooten Allen, her in-laws, James and Nora Lee Grissom.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 6, at 11am at Bullock’s United Methodist Church, near Creedmoor with visitation from 10am to 11am. Interment will take place at Johnsons Grove Cemetery in Vass at 3pm. The family welcomes all to a reception hosted by Vass UMC, following the committal service. Donations can be made to Granville County Animal Services in Oxford NC and/or the ASPCA to assist with animal adoptions, as well as Bullocks United Methodist Church at 2682 US-15, Creedmoor NC, 27522.
