Brenda Kay Smith, 72, a lifelong resident of Carthage and caring mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2020, at FirstHealth Hospice House.
Brenda was born in Moore County June 22, 1948 to Claude Morris and Alma Elizabeth Jackson Clark. After obtaining an associates degree from CCCC in textile management, she began working at Carthage Fabric. Her knowledge and experience in textile management then led her to work with Fletcher Industries and later Owen-Global. Brenda had strong work ethics and always did well wherever she worked. One of her favorite jobs was working at Lowes Home Improvements in contract sales. Not wanting to stay at home by herself, her latest adventure was being a Top Dasher with DoorDash.
Known for her athleticism, she enjoyed playing baseball, even finishing a game as catcher one time after breaking her elbow on a slide. She also enjoyed playing basketball and was a true Carolina Tarheel fan.
She loved most every genre of music both past and present and for many years enjoyed competitive ballroom dancing and square dancing. She had many ballroom dresses and loved her high heel shoes.
Brenda’s life was not easy, losing two of her sons Christopher and Todd was very difficult for her but through it all her faith kept her strong and allowed her to accept both the good and bad that life dealt her. She was also preceded in death by two sisters; Margaret Cirone and Jean Spencer who she was very close to.
She is survived by her daughter; Kimberly Gibson (Don) of Carthage, sister; Martha Moore (David) of Myrtle Beach, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Brenda’s life will be celebrated at 3:00 pm Saturday, July 18, 2020, in the Carthage Community Building (Rock Building) on McReynolds Street with her nephew, Pastor Scott Salleeby officiating. Visitation hours will begin at 2:00 and burial will follow after the service at Cross Hill Cemetery. In keeping with Brenda’s style of life the family asks that when attending the service please feel free to wear bright colors as a tribute to her love for life and others.
