Obituary for Chyrl Gray Garrett-Weber of Pinehurst

Chyrl Gray Garrett-Weber, 69, of Pinehurst passed away at Duke Raleigh Hospital on November 14th, 2023.

Chyrl was born in Greenville, South Carolina. She is the daughter of Elizabeth Gray Garrett and the late Glenn Rudolph Garrett.

She was a radiant soul and deeply caring for all her friends and family. Chyrl was an exceptionally talented artist and created many works with different medias to include her famous pen and ink drawings, watercolors, and oil paintings. Chyrl worked several jobs although began a nineteen-year career with Putt-Putt at 21 years old. She created many designs and illustrations over her years as Art Director at Putt-Putt to include course designs. After a brief marriage, Chyrl began taking in various illustration jobs that she could complete on nights and weekends. She was an extremely hard worker and single mother that did what she could to make ends meet and ensure her children had what they needed. This was Chyrl’s way of always being with her children even if she was working. Chyrl also worked at Village Green where she found an interest in golf that remained with her. Chyrl was remarried to the late Charles Weber and had the opportunity to pursue a full-time career in freelance art and continued working with builders in the area. She completed the Parade of Homes book issued by the Home Builders Association for many years. She was divorced some years later living in both Myrtle Beach and Pinehurst, but always kept her heart open. She always said she would rather have loved and lost than to not have loved at all as the famous quote by Tennyson states.

Chyrl has completed many portraits of people and pets along with many other treasures over the years that will always be cherished by the owners of her artwork. She was beautiful inside and out and always made time to stay fit and look her best. She presented herself with elegance and grace and always believed the best of everyone she met. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach or mountains and adored experiencing new things. Chyrl was true friend to all, and her relationships were very important to her whether it be her friends from high school, golfing partners, connections she made through art or her shopping buddies. She kept long lasting friendships that she cherished and made time to stay connected. She especially appreciated any time spent with her loving grandchildren and sharing her love of art. Chyrl was recently engaged to Jim Ranney and was living a wonderful life in a beautiful home by the lake in Pinehurst.
