Obituary Dorothy Anne VanDebogart-Koplow

Dorothy Anne “Dottie” VanDeBogart-Koplow, 69, of Pinehurst, NC, died peacefully at her home of cancer on Monday, April 12, 2021.  She was the wife of the late Michael Koplow, her dear husband of 25 years.

Dottie was born November 22, 1951, in Cazenovia, NY to the late Ward C. VandeBogart and the late Beverly Anne (Gershbacher) VandeBogart-DeRocha.  She lived in Massachusetts for most of her life before moving to Savannah, GA, and most recently to Pinehurst, NC.  

Dottie graduated from Cazenovia High School in 1969.  She continued her studies at Syracuse University, Onondaga Community College, Syracuse, NY and Northeastern University in Boston.

Dottie enjoyed her many years as a procurement leader at Thermo-Electron Corporation, Waltham, MA helping Thermo Cardiosystems bring new health products to market.  She then spent more than a decade at the North Suburban YMCA, Woburn, MA excelling in membership sales and fundraising.  

Dottie believed in community and her home was the beloved gathering place for family year after year.  She embraced her role as aunt and grandmother and could always be counted on for a special treat or a fun activity.  A formidable planner, Dottie started shopping for Christmas presents in July, determined to find just the right thing for each child.  An artist, Dottie was noted for her paintings, other crafts and her beautiful gardens. Her work has been exhibited in both Boston, MA and Savannah, GA.  She enjoyed life in New England, and loved the Cape Cod summers.

Dottie is survived by two dear sisters, Susan J, Maxwell and her husband Carleton of West End, NC and Debora L. Keller and her husband Brian of York, PA;  a dear brother; Ward J. VandeBogart and his wife Maureen of Cazenovia, NY; four step-children; Paul Koplow and his wife Kathy of Waltham, MA; Leslie Koplow and her husband Timothy Terpstra of Concord, MA; Hilarie Koplow-McAdams and her husband Steven McAdams of Atherton, CA;  Jeffrey Koplow and his wife Jennifer of San Ramon, CA; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, her dear sister-in-law, Florence Koplow of Lexington, MA and several nieces and nephews and many other loved ones.  

Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Brookline, MA.  In Dottie’s memory, a private Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.
