Gwendolyn Cornelius Swann, age 85, of Sanford, went to her heavenly home on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Central Carolina Hospital, with family by her side.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, September 13, 2024, at 11:00am at Love Grove AME Zion Church, 796 Love Grove Church Road, Sanford, NC 27332 with Pastor Kenneth Swann officiating.
Gwen was born in Cameron, North Carolina on May 5, 1939, to the late Marvin and Mae Vestal Cornelius. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Prince Richmond Swann, sisters, Nezzie Torres, Mary Ella Cornelius, Dorothy Brower, brothers, William Cornelius, Thomas Cornelius, Eugene Cornelius, Vincent Cornelius
She was a graduate of the Class of 1958 from Pinckney High School in Carthage. She retired from Tyson Foods of Sanford. Gwen had a love for basketball, coloring and was a great cook. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She leaves behind her sister, Carolyn Swann of LaGrange, NC, niece and Goddaughter, Angelia Cornelius Hill, nieces, Mavis Swann, Dorothy Brower, Andrea Torres, Amanda Hyman, Yvonne Alderman, Darlena Swann, Wanda Cornelius, Wendy Cornelius, Wilma Cornelius; nephews, Curtis Swann, Anthony Alderman, Maurice Swann, Eric Swann, Brent Swann; sister-in-law, Cathyrn Cornelius.
The family wishes to acknowledge with deepest and heartfelt appreciation the many expressions of love, concern, and kindness shown to them during this hour of bereavement. Special thanks to the staff at Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center who rendered tender loving care to her during her extended stay.
