Rufus Wilbor Mahaffey, Jr., 69, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, at his home.
Rufus was born August 8, 1956, in Moore County, NC, to the late Rufus Wilbor Mahaffey, Sr., and the late Hazel Mae Ritter Mahaffey.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 37 years, Pamela Travis Mahaffey of Sanford; his son Jacob Mahaffey and life partner Alyssa Moses of Pinebluff; daughter, Shannon Hanson and her husband Anthony of Sanford; grandson, Mason Hanson; his sister, Joyce Bennett and her husband Lewis of Pinebluff, NC and a host of other extended family and friends.
Rufus lived in Moore County the majority of his life. He worked in Facilities Management for FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital for 42 years. He was a long-time member of Middlecross Baptist Church in West End. There, he and Pam taught children’s Sunday School for several years. Rufus loved hunting, especially bird hunting, and working with hunting dogs. He was an award winning shooter.
At his request, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
