John David Anderson, Sr., 86 of Pinehurst, passed on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Quail Haven Healthcare Center of Pinehurst. 

A memorial service will be held 3PM on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst.

Mr. Anderson was born July 19, 1933 in Webster Grove, Missouri to the late John Arnold Anderson and Lois Mae (Robbins) Anderson. He was a lifelong athlete in high school and college. While obtaining his bachelor’s in business he played football and baseball at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. His athletic abilities continued into the US Army where he later played baseball. He obtained the rank of Captain and was an Airborne Ranger spending time serving in Japan. After leaving the military he attending Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania. After he graduated he went to work for Johns Manville Corporation where he worked in labor relations for over 30 years.  He later retired and moved to Pinehurst in 1995 to enjoy playing golf.  At home he enjoyed carpentry, building all kinds of things to benefit those in need such as handicap ramps and shelving.  He was an active member of the Village Chapel in Pinehurst. David was also a member of the Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge and was involved in the establishment of the Academy of Moore County Charter School.  He drove a school bus for the charter school and served on the Board of Directors. The Anderson family enjoyed beach week each summer at their home at Wild Dunes in Isle of Palms, South Carolina for many years.

He is survived by his wife 63years, Jeanne E. Anderson; Two sons, John David Anderson, Jr. of Maryville, TN; Jeffrey Thomas Anderson and wife Heather of Tacoma, WA; Two daughters, Teri Sue Anderson and husband William Duffy of Denver, CO; Toni Lynn Anderson and husband Anthony Williams of Westminster, CO; A sister, Joan Faith Rivisto of Sun City, AZ; Six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
