Lewis Apple, age, 92, of Lakeview, North Carolina passed away peacefully around 10:00 pm, Thursday, October 23, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Lakeview Presbyterian Church at 3:00 pm with Pastor Julie Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 until 3 in the church. Burial will follow in Cypress Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Cameron with Military Honors.
Lewis was born in Guilford County on December 26, 1932, to the late Lewis Blackburn Apple and Mabel Newell Apple.
He attended Vass-Lakeview High School where he was senior class president and excelled at baseball and basketball. He joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served as a military policeman in Germany. On his return to the states, he played minor league baseball briefly before returning to Moore County and marrying Helen Johnson Apple, in later life got an associate degree from Sandhills Community College and worked at Fletcher Industries for 30 plus years.
Lewis and Helen raised two children, Mike Apple of Lakeview and the late Wendy Apple McRae also of Lakeview. He was an avid reader, loved traveling, hunting, and fishing. He was a fan of sports supported his Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals in baseball and the NCSU Wolfpack in all sports. Lewis had a life well lived.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Mike (Dawn); grandchildren, Andrew (Nicole) Apple, Abby Howard (Mark), Maggie Harris, Will Apple (Alyssa), Eric McRae; great-grandchildren, Stella Livengood, Lily Howard, Madison Apple, Amelia Apple, Luke Howard, Ila Howard.
