Lois L. Richard, 74, of Pinehurst, and formerly New Jersey, passed peacefully at the FirstHealth Hospice House on Tuesday, March 3rd.

Born in Bayonne, N.J. in 1945, she was the daughter of the late James and Elvira “Chill” Gott.  After her high school graduation, Lois went on to earn her Associates’ Degree and started working for AT&T.  In 1968, she married Thomas “Tom” Richard and the two soon started a family.  Once the kids were old enough, Lois returned to the work force, working in a rectory in Short Hills, NJ before returning to AT&T.  In 1992, she opened her own shop, Orient Express, in Summit, N.J.  In 2002, she moved to Pinehurst and soon took a position w/ BB&T.

Lois enjoyed the theatre and had a love for Broadway Musicals.  In high school, she had the lead role in her schools production.  Lois knew all the big Broadway hit songs and could sing along to any of them.  As a mother, she fought to start a swimming program for her sons’ school.  Lois taught CCD, was a member of the Junior League, Caring Kids and the Pitch Pipers.

Lois is survived by her husband of 52 years, Tom Richard and their sons:  Tim Richard, wife Christine, and Tom Richard, III.   She was the sister of Phyllis D. Shea and is also survived by her one grandson, Alex Richard.

A visitation will be held Sunday, March 8th, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave. Sothern Pines.  A celebration of her life will be held at the funeral home Monday morning at 8:30 A.M.
