Lynn Painter Dillard of Whispering Pines died at the First Health Hospice House on January 21, 2020 surrounded by her family.  She is survived by her husband, David Page Dillard, two children and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Dillard was born in Sewickley, PA and raised in Douglaston, NY on the North Shore of Long Island. She became an expert horsewoman at an early age, riding with the Oaks Hunt in Great Neck, NY.  She graduated from the Chatham Hall School in Chatham, VA and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  She met her husband, David Page Dillard in Greensboro where they married in 1960, sharing a marriage of almost 60 years.

Mrs. Dillard continued her love of horses and riding to the Hounds, whipping in to the Moore Country Hounds for many years and was Joint Master of the Why Worry Hounds in Aiken, SC. She was an expert snow skier plus serving as an EMT with the National Ski Patrol at Sugar Mountain in Boone, NC. She flew airplanes of various sizes all over the country, earning an instrument rating.  She held licenses in commercial real estate and general contracting, running several businesses.  Also, Mrs. Dillard was an expert player of duplicate bridge. She held the title of Ruby Life Master. Her love of the game led her to open the Sandhills Bridge Center where frequent duplicate games are held.

She is to be buried privately at Hilltop Cemetery, Southern Pines. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Dillard Scholarship Fund at Duke University Medical School. Checks should be made out to Duke University and mailed to the attention of Ruth Irvin, Duke Health Development, 300 W. Morgan St, Suite 1200, Durham, NC  27701.
