Obituary for Mary Ann Smith

Mary Ann Smith was born August 10, 1939. She was the daughter of Nick and Rose Ortalano D’Angelo. She had a sister, Rose, and a brother, Nat. The family grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois.  MaryAnn graduated from York High School, class of 1957.

While in high school, MaryAnn met Rex G. Smith. In 1961, they married. Rex’s military service brought the couple to Germany where they made friends that they kept in touch with throughout the years. When they returned to the States, MaryAnn and Rex settled in Lombard, Illinois and became members of Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora. Family was of great importance to both and they became parents to a daughter, Lesli, and a son, Patrick. Through the years their family continued to grow to include five grandchildren – Andrew, Jessica, Michelle, Jeanette, and Tony.  It didn’t stop there, however.  The entire family welcomed AJ and Bobbi, making MaryAnn and Rex great-grandparents.

When Lesli and Patrick were older, MaryAnn took a career in the cosmetic industry as a sales rep for several different companies.

After her retirement in 2002, she and Rex relocated to Pinehurst and built a home in Pinewild. MaryAnn became an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She was an adorer in Perpetual Adoration and a member of the Women of Sacred Heart where she volunteered at the annual Elphie Sale, a fund-raising event which gave contributions to many church and community organizations.

MaryAnn was a “social butterfly” who loved entertaining and dancing. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge. She enjoyed spending summers at their home on a lake in Michigan.

MaryAnn is survived by Rex, her loving husband; her daughter, Lesli; her son, Patrick, and his wife Abigail; her grandchildren, Andrew, Jessica, Michelle, Jeanette, and Tony; her great-grandchildren, AJ and Bobbi; her sister Rose Rago; and numerous nieces and nephews.
