Obituary for Richard Jon Lorette of Carthage

Richard Jon Lorette, 77, passed away at his home in Carthage, NC on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Born on November 30, 1946, in Rutland, Vermont, he was a son of the late Bernard and Mona Williams Lorette.

After graduating high school, Richard served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable service, he returned home to obtain his bachelors degree from Castleton State College. Growing up with his father being a horseman, his love of horses began as a child. This led him to a career in harness racing where he raced and trained his own horses.

He met the love of his life and they traveled together with the horses. They settled in North Carolina, and he worked at the Pinehurst Harness Track. One of his greatest achievements, besides his family, was the beautiful cabin he built for his wife and two daughters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Nancy Weidman Lorette and his little brother, Jack Lorette.

Richard is survived by his two daughters and son-in-laws: Michele & James Douglas of West End NC and Katherine & Joel Williams of Carthage NC, his sister, Suzanne (Percy) Davis of Schuylerville, NY; and his five grandchildren: Hunter, Brooke, Andrew, Jackson & Joseph.

A celebration of life will be held at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home Thursday May 9th. The family will receive visitors from 5-6 pm and the service will immediately follow.
