Gerald E. Lewis, a resident of Whispering Pines passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on December 29, 2017 at the Hospice House.

Jerry was born on May 1, 1933, in Rochester, NY, where he lived until leaving home to attend The University of Iowa. Jerry married Karen Joy Kratz on September 1, 1956 in Rockford, IL. Upon graduating from Iowa in 1957 with a Mechanical Engineering Degree, Jerry began a career with Union Carbide Corp. which lasted 34 years. Originally settling in Marietta, OH, he eventually moved to South Charleston, WV. In South Charleston, Jerry was a member of the Library Board and President of Chamber of Commerce. Retiring in 1990, Jerry and Karen moved to Whispering Pines where he enjoyed playing golf and traveling with his wife. He was a member and past President of the Country Club of Whispering Pines, a member of the Board of Adjustments for the Village of Whispering Pines and a member of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church. In 2003, after surviving esophageal cancer, he volunteered with CareNet Group at FirstHealth counseling many cancer patients over the years.

Surviving Jerry are his wife of 61 years, Karen; daughter, Diana Horne and husband Glenn of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Marcia Williams and husband Edward of Langhorne, PA; granddaughter, Rebecca Horne of Houston, TX; brother, Lawrence Lewis and wife Karen of Rockford, IL and brother-in-law, Irwin Kratz and wife Charlotte of Indianapolis, IN.

A memorial service will be held at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines on Thursday, January 4, 2017 at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clara McLean House or FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
