A pedestrian crossing U.S. Highway 1 was struck by a car and had to be airlifted Saturday night. The accident occurred in Aberdeen in front of the Super 8 Motel and Tidal Wave Car Wash at 6:50 p.m.
The man was crossing the road when he was struck by a car that was heading south on U.S. 1. When authorities arrived on the scene, the victim was lying in the road in the southbound lanes. Due to traumatic injuries, a medevac helicopter was called.
Aberdeen Fire & Rescue set up a landing zone at Southern Middle School. Moore County EMS transported the victim to the landing zone where a UNC helicopter transported him to an area trauma center.
The man’s condition is unknown at this time. Aberdeen Police are investigating the accident.
Both lanes of U.S. 1 Southbound were shut down, and traffic was rerouted.
