On Oct. 29, The Moore County Traffic Safety Task Force participated in a North Carolina Governors Highway Safety Program’s high visibility checking station. The event was hosted by the Pinebluff Police Department, in the area of U.S. Highway 1, in front of the Pinebluff Police Department.
Officers from Pinebluff, Robbins, Foxfire, Vass, Taylortown and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol were in attendance at the checking station. In addition, the Pinebluff Public Works Department, North Carolina Booze It/Lose It Bat Mobile, and representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) attended. In total, 19 law enforcement officers were present on the scene.
During the checking station, officers issued 42 charges by citation and arrest. The charges issued were driving while license revoked, displaying a fictitious registration plate, expired registration, no liability insurance, possessing drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, driving without a driver’s license, speeding violations, felony possession of cocaine (nearly one ounce of cocaine seized cumulatively) four DWIs, felony possession with the intent to manufacture, sale and deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle as a place to store controlled substances, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, open container of alcohol violations, and concealment of handgun/weapon violations.
A Glock handgun was seized and was found to be “illegally modified with a ‘switch’ being put on the gun, making it essentially an automatic handgun,” said the Pinebluff Police Department. Charges will be made for this as well at a later date and time.
Seven individuals were arrested and transported to the Moore County jail during seven separate arrests.
A breakdown of the arrests is two felony possession of cocaine arrests, one firearm by a felon, and four DWIs.
The event began at 7 p.m. with a one-hour briefing of all officers and concluded at midnight. The Pinebluff Police Department’s wrecker rotation service was also utilized, and several vehicles were towed.
“These types of events are a necessity for making our public roadways a safer place for everyone,” said the Pinebluff Police Department.
