Powers promoted to patrol lieutenant

Southern Pines Police Chief Nick Polidori announced the promotion of Sergeant Greg Powers to lieutenant, effective Sept. 1.

Powers has been a law enforcement veteran for 15 years, starting his career at the Southern Pines Police Department in 2010. He is assigned as a watch commander in the patrol division.

Powers is a graduate of UNC Charlotte, having received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He has been a member of the Special Response Team and served as a K-9 handler for the department. He holds his Intermediate and Advanced Law Enforcement certificates. Powers also serves as the commander of the department’s Honor Guard and as the Field Training and Evaluation Program Coordinator.

“On August 5, 2025, the Southern Pines Police Department conducted a comprehensive promotional Assessment Center for the rank of Lieutenant,” said Polidori in a press release. “Candidates were evaluated by law enforcement and emergency services professionals from outside of the agency on their knowledge, skills and abilities to perform in this assignment. Please join us as we congratulate Lieutenant Powers on his accomplishment.”
