Recovering Moore Resource Center opens in Aberdeen

The Recovering Moore Resource Center (RMRC) recently opened its doors at 205 Knight Street in Aberdeen.

The RMRC is a collaboration between Samaritan Colony, Pilgrim’s Progress, and the Sandhills Opioid Response Consortium.

RMRC is a drop-in resource available to anyone in the community looking for help with addiction-related issues. Staffed by Certified Peer Support Specialists from Samaritan Colony and the Sandhills Opioid Response Consortium, the RMRC will facilitate 12-step meetings for individuals undergoing medically assisted treatment, mindful meditation classes, and other resources for individuals in recovery.

There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Jan. 23 at 9 a.m. Following the ceremony, a coffee social will be held at High Octane Coffee Shop in Aberdeen.

Samaritan Colony is a place of hope that resides just over the Moore County line in Richmond County. Located on 25 acres in Rockingham, Samaritan Colony has been helping men in the Sandhills area overcome their struggles with alcohol and drug addiction for nearly 50 years.

Samaritan Colony, also known as “The Colony,” has been a place of healing and recovery since 1975, when it opened its doors as a residential alcohol treatment facility. Over the last 48 years, Samaritan Colony has helped over 5,000 men learn to live a life of recovery and has helped families begin to heal.

Samaritan Colony provides services to nine counties — Richmond, Moore, Lee, Montgomery, Anson, Harnett, Hoke, Gilford and Randolph. Roughly 40% of the clients seeking treatment are from Moore County.

Samaritan Colony is also opening a new treatment for women in Rockingham. Construction is scheduled to be completed this summer.

Samaritan Colony has completed phase 1 of its Changing Lives Capital Campaign. This covers the construction costs associated with the women’s treatment center. They are now in phase 2 of the campaign and aim to raise $1,770,000. This amount will help ensure Samaritan Colony’s financial viability well into the future.
