Registered sex offender arrested for child sex crimes

A Southern Pines man is facing ten counts of felony third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor following an investigation by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office. 

On Jan. 8, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office arrested Daniel Rowley, 39, of the Southern Pines area of Moore County, following an investigation into the sexual exploitation of a minor, reports Sheriff Ronnie Fields.

The investigation was reportedly initiated by probation officers with the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections and involved coordination with Moore County Sheriff’s Office Forensics Specialists.

As a result of the investigation, Rowley is facing charges of ten counts of felony third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and was confined in the Moore County Detention Center under a $750,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Moore County district court on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

Rowley has been a registered sex offender since June 2025, following a prior conviction in Moore County for two counts of sexual battery, reports Fields.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office is an active participant in the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children (NCICAC) Task Force.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
