As an Army veteran and paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division from 2006 to 2010, Robin Caswell saw the struggles some of her fellow soldiers had with mental health and substance abuse after coming home from deployment overseas.

“The reward I get from working in this field is knowing I helped individuals and families like those veterans identify and achieve their goals through a collaborative, trusting relationship,” says Caswell, who recently joined FirstHealth Behavioral Services in Pinehurst as a therapist. “I work with my clients and their families to take control of their life and help them live the life they want to live. I am looking forward to building those kinds of relationships with my patients and their families at FirstHealth.”

In addition to her time in the military, Caswell brings a wealth of experience in the behavioral and mental health field to her new position with FirstHealth. She previously worked as a school-based mental health professional for the North Carolina public schools, where she provided treatment to children with social, emotional and behavioral challenges. Prior to the school system, she worked as an ACT Team mental health therapist for Daymark Recovery Services. She has also had the opportunity to provide psychotherapeutic services to military veterans, service members and military children and families.

“My past experiences have given me the chance to work with different populations from children, adolescents and adults, to military service members, veterans and families,” Caswell says. “I have worked with individuals who have severe and persistent mental disorders, those with emotional and behavioral challenges, and people who are challenged by substance use disorders. All of those experiences have prepared me well for my role with FirstHealth.”

Caswell earned a master’s degree in social work from North Carolina State University. She is currently enrolled in the Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate program at East Carolina University.

A native of Cincinnati, Caswell was raised by her grandmother who was from Tunica, Miss. She enjoys reading, writing, art and spending time with her husband and son. She and her family enjoy camping, fishing and watching movies together.
