A single-vehicle rollover crash destroyed a power pole, leaving Highway 1 shut down in Aberdeen Thursday night. The accident happened at Highway 1 and Montford Street intersection at 11:30 p.m.

According to officials on the scene, the female driver of a Chevy Equinox was heading south on Highway 1 when she went off the right side of the highway, crashing into a power pole.

The impact destroyed the pole, leaving a large debris field in the roadway. The car then crossed all five lanes of traffic, rolling over and coming to rest on its side. The driver was evaluated by paramedics with EMS but refused to be transported to the hospital.

Duke Progress was on the scene repairing the damage to the power lines and pole.

Aberdeen Police is investigating the cause of the accident.

Responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Aberdeen Police and the N.C. Highway Patrol.
