Sanford man facing charges after stolen vehicle found in Aberdeen

A Sanford man was arrested Monday after police said he was caught driving a stolen Jeep Wrangler in Aberdeen.

According to the Aberdeen Police Department, officers were notified Oct. 5 about a vehicle stolen from Sanford. The next day, officers reportedly located the Jeep at the Woodgreen Apartments and conducted a traffic stop.

Police say the driver, identified as David Jones Sr., 50, was taken into custody.

“Aberdeen officers located the stolen vehicle in the Woodgreen Apartment complex, and conducted a traffic stop on it,” reports the Aberdeen Police Department in a press release. “Jones was identified as the driver, along with a female passenger, who was later determined to not have knowledge of the incident.”

Jones is facing charges of felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after officers said they found a glass pipe with suspected drug residue during a search.

He was taken before a Moore County magistrate and given a $5,000 secured bond. The Jeep was towed at the request of the Sanford Police Department, which is continuing the investigation.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
