Several people were hospitalized Saturday morning after a rollover crash involving a Honda Fit and a Chevrolet Equinox in Southern Pines.
According to authorities, the crash occurred around 9:45 a.m. on South May Street when a Honda Fit was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Equinox that was traveling at an undisclosed speed.
The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, and a witness on the scene reported that the Equinox flipped three times before coming to rest on its side.
Authorities said the driver of the Equinox was thrown into the back of her vehicle during the rollover. A medical helicopter was dispatched to a landing zone that had been established at the Southern Pines ball field, but the driver declined air transport and was transported via ambulance instead.
A male and female occupant of the Honda were transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. The extent of their injuries was not disclosed.
Responding agencies included the Southern Pines Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
