A single-vehicle crash in Vass late Monday afternoon sent the driver to the hospital and slowed the busy commute on U.S. Highway 1 just before 5 p.m.
According to authorities on scene, a Toyota Tacoma traveling northbound approached the turning lane to U.S. 1 Business when the male driver suffered a medical episode.
The medical episode reportedly caused him to veer off the left side of the roadway and smash into the guardrail. The impact caused the truck to roll over before coming to a stop on its driver’s side.
The crash shut down the northbound turning lane of U.S. Highway 1 as well as the inside southbound lane, causing traffic to slow to a crawl through the area while crews worked the scene.
The man was the only occupant and was transported to Moore Regional Hospital for further evaluation.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash.
Responding units included Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
