According to the Whispering Pines Police Department’s Facebook page, a fox who appeared sick and distressed tested positive for rabies.
On Saturday, an officer was called to a home on Par Drive regarding the fox.
The department said the “officer observed the animal and determined that it was suffering from an illness.” The officer euthanized the fox and turned it over to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office Animal Center for testing.
The department was notified of the positive test results on Tuesday.
“Please remember to have all your pets up to date on their rabies vaccinations, and if you should see any animals that appear to be sick or distressed, please contact the police department immediately,” wrote the department on its Facebook page on Wednesday.
