The Southern Pines Fire Department held an open house Saturday at its main station on W. Pennsylvania Ave. to celebrate its 125th anniversary.
The open house included fire attack, hydrant, and drop tank demonstrations for guests.
“The Southern Pines Volunteer Fire Department was organized on February 13, 1898, after a fire destroyed the Central Hotel, and a public outcry for an organized fire department was heard,” said Southern Pines Fire Department. “At that time, the Town of Southern Pines was only 10 years old.”
