North Moore senior Hailey Robinson has spent her four years of high school in athletics.
She just completed her third year on the golf team, where they won the conference championship, and she won Golfer of the Year in the school’s conference. Knowing nothing about golf, a friend helped her take a swing at the sport.
“No one in my family plays golf,” said Hailey. “I would watch a friend play, and he helped me. So I told my dad I wanted to play, and he got me some clubs.”
Her sophomore year was her first, and she never expected to win Golfer of the Year a couple of grades later.
“Coach Smith saw something in me, and he pushed me and pushed me,” Hailey said.
Between golf in the fall and softball in the spring, which she has played most of her life, Hailey needed a sport to play, so she decided to join the swim team.
If school, a job, and year-long sports aren’t enough, Hailey has been in top positions in the Student Government Association: Freshman – VP of her class, sophomore – president of her class, junior – executive VP of the school, and senior year, she is the student body president. She is also a member of the BETA Club and Future Business Leaders of America, all while maintaining a 4.58 GPA.
On being crowned homecoming queen this year, Hailey said she never expected it.
“I was bawling my eyes out, and I’m so honored to be picked,” said Hailey.
After she finishes school, Hailey wants to become a pilot. Just over four percent of women make up the airline pilot industry, which helps her stay focused on her goal.
While in high school, taking classes at Sandhills Community College, and working as a cook for an internship, Hailey has already begun flight school. She has accrued nearly 10 hours of flight time.
The six-figure starting salary in just a few short years will help her fund her dream of providing affordable housing.
“I want to buy houses and offer affordable rent, to feed people, and to help them,” said Hailey. “I love to feed people. I don’t care if it’s friends or a church potluck.”
In addition to helping people, Hailey wants to repay her parents for supporting her.
“I was a handful when I was a kid,” Hailey said. “I’ll admit it. I’m so thankful for everything they have done for me.”
