Teen airlifted after truck overturns near Moore-Lee county line

A teenage girl was airlifted to a trauma center early Saturday morning after being trapped beneath an overturned pickup truck in a crash near the Moore and Lee County line.

According to Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue, emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 3 a.m. to a reported motor vehicle crash on South Plank Road. Although initially reported in Lee County, responders determined the crash site was located on the Moore County side of the county line.

Cypress Pointe was requested to respond as a second rescue unit due to reports that a teenage passenger was pinned beneath the cab of the overturned truck. Working alongside the Lemon Springs Fire Department, crews used rescue jacks, cribbing, and a winch to lift the vehicle and safely extricate the patient.

Two other occupants in the truck were able to escape on their own. One of them was also transported to a hospital for treatment.

Details were not released regarding who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Cypress Pointe reported that the trapped teen remained conscious and communicative throughout the extrication. She was transported by Lee County EMS to a designated landing zone, where an air care helicopter was waiting to fly her to a trauma center.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
