Truck crashes into Whispering Pies pizzeria

A local restaurant experienced a very unexpected incident shortly after closing for the night after a truck crashed into its entryway. A truck drove into the front of Whispering Pies just before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, resulting in significant damage.

According to officials on scene, a Chevrolet truck with at least two occupants was parked directly in front of the restaurant in the Mill Creek shopping center when the driver mistakenly shifted into drive instead of reverse. The truck jumped the curb and slammed into the front entryway of the building, damaging the structure around the doors.

Emergency units were dispatched following initial reports that the driver and passenger had jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. However, when officials arrived, they found that this was not the case and that both individuals had instead moved to the side of the building, away from the damaged structure.

The truck only sustained minor damage to its front end in the incident.

Officials told Sandhills Sentinel on scene that no one was inside the restaurant at the time of the crash, as it had closed shortly before the incident. No injuries were reported.

Some restaurant personnel returned to assist with cleanup while crews worked to secure the entryway until repairs could be made.

It is currently undetermined how long the restaurant will remain closed.

Responding units included the Southern Pines Fire Department, Southern Pines Police Department, Moore County EMS, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
