A two-vehicle collision brought U.S. Highway 1 south to a crawl Saturday afternoon. The crash between a Chevrolet Colorado and a Nissan Altima happened around 1:30 p.m. in the 5000 block of U.S. Highway 1 near Vass, just before Dunrovin.
According to authorities on scene, the driver of the Nissan was traveling south when she drifted into the left turning lane, causing her to strike the rear passenger side of the Chevrolet truck, which was already in the turning lane to attempt to make a U-turn.Â
After the initial impact, the Nissan swerved and struck the truck in the front end, then crossed back over both southbound lanes and came to a stop just off the shoulder of the road. The front wheel and axle were almost completely ripped off the vehicle.
Neither driver appeared to be injured. Two small children who were in the Nissan were also checked out by EMS, but no one required transport to the hospital.
One lane of southbound U.S. Highway 1 was shut down while crews worked the scene and the vehicles were removed.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash.
Responding units included Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Vass Police Department, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
