Union Pines swim teams compete in state championship

The Union Pines High School swim teams competed in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3A State Championship on Friday at the Triangle Aquatic Center.

Union Pines High School announced that the women’s team finished ninth in the state out of 44, and the men’s team finished 23rd out of 41. 

Union Pines had 6 top-10 finishes.

– The women’s 200 medley relay finished fifth, and the women’s 400 freestyle relay finished sixth, with Ava Milkowich, Claire Weld, Rebecca Kangas, and Nyah Tranel on both relays.

– Ava Milkowich finished seventh in the 100 butterfly and sixth in the 100 backstroke.

– Claire Weld finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke.

– Ian Hicks finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke.

– The men’s 200 medley relay with Tay Tranel, Ian Hicks, Cullen Cox, and Logan Glaubitz finished 17th.

– Nyah Tranel finished 20th in the 200 freestyle.

– Ian Hicks finished 13th in the 200 IM.

– Claire Weld finished 16th in the 100 freestyle.

– Cullen Cox finished 18th in the 500 freestyle.

– The women’s 200 free relay with Ceilidh Clendenin, Avery Armstrong, Camille Tipton, and Riley Elwell finished 23rd.

– The men’s 200 free relay with Andrew Davis, Logan Glaubitz, Aiden Simmons, and Ian Hicks finished 11th.

– Klay Blue finished 24th in the 100 backstroke.

– Riley Elwell finished 14th in the 100 breaststroke.
