Aberdeen crews responded to two incidents Thursday night when two collisions happened almost simultaneously in separate parts of town.
Around 9:15 p.m., two vehicles collided at the intersection of Johnson Street and U.S. 15-501 in front of Taco Bell, leaving traffic blocked in multiple directions. Authorities on scene said the collision occurred when one vehicle failed to stop, though the cause remains under investigation, and officials did not release additional details.
As a result of the wreck, an SUV and a passenger car were left blocking the roadway in the middle of the intersection. The car sustained damage on the driver’s side, while the SUV appeared to take the impact head-on.
Emergency crews worked to remove the vehicles and direct drivers around the scene. Aberdeen Fire Department and Aberdeen Police Department responded, with Rockwell Towing assisting in clearing the roadway.
While crews were handling the crash, additional Aberdeen units were dispatched to a second wreck near Aberdeen Lake Park, where radio traffic indicated a truck and a moped had collided.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation was contacted after first responders reported that the truck had been carrying chicken byproducts and that the load had spilled into the roadway.
Traffic on both U.S. 1 and U.S. 15-501 was slowed as a result of the two incidents.
