USPS mail carrier robbed at gunpoint in Southern Pines

The Southern Pines Police Department is investigating an armed robbery of a postal worker on Elk Ridge Lane on Wednesday just after 1 p.m.

“The initial investigation revealed the postal worker was delivering mail at the community mailboxes when three unknown black male suspects approached the victim to rob him at gunpoint,” said Southern Pines Police Chief Nick Polidori in a press release.

The suspects allegedly stole personal effects from the mail carrier and undelivered mail and other property of the U.S. Postal Service. The postal worker was not injured.

Polidori stated that the three suspects fled on foot and have not yet been identified.

A clothing description for two of the suspects has been provided.

“One suspect was wearing a camouflage hoodie, another suspect was wearing all black clothing with a face mask,” said Polidori.

The Southern Pines Police Department requests assistance from the community to identify suspects, including home or business security camera footage that may have captured one or more suspects in the area at the time of the robbery.

Information can be given by calling the Southern Pines Police Department at 910-692-7031 or the Crime Tip Line at 910-693-4110. All information is welcome and can be left anonymously.
