Village board passes $7.4M budget

The Fiscal Year (FY) 2025-26 budget for the Village of Whispering Pines was adopted by the Village Council on June 11 in the amount of $7,418,938.

“The budget was developed based on directives from the Council and other sound budgetary principles,” said the Village in its newsletter.

These key directives included maintaining operating costs, investing in Village infrastructure, and providing essential Village services. The adopted ad valorem tax rate of $0.37 per $100 valuation includes a $0.15 tax levy that will be committed to the Village’s Capital Reserve Major Repair Fund, which is expected to generate approximately $1,551,450.

Significant capital expenditures for FY 2025-26 include replacing 18 self-contained breathing apparatus cylinders, replacing various lengths and sizes of fire hose, repair the concrete wash bay area at the fire rescue station, replacing the existing in-car camera system and add body-worn cameras for the police department, add office space within the PW building, acquire a new steep slope 4-wheel drive mower, acquire new lake water level monitoring system for five lakes, make improvements to the walking trail system as prioritized in the Recreation/Open Space Master Plan, and acquire a sod cutter.

“The budget strives to provide the highest level of professional services to Village residents in a costeffective manner,” said the Village in its newsletter. “The budget reflects projects that preserve the character of our unique Village while taking steps to enhance it.”
