A woman was injured in a fiery crash in Pinebluff on Thunder Road Tuesday night. The crash occurred about two miles down Thunder Road from U.S. Highway 1 at 9:40 p.m. A caller on the scene advised emergency dispatchers the driver was out of the pickup truck, but the truck was on fire.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found the truck fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze while paramedics treated the woman.
The victim had suffered a number of injuries. A status check for a helicopter was done, but they could not fly due to weather conditions.
She was transported by EMS to Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Her condition is unknown at this time.
The truck had just driven over a bridge when it went off the left-hand side of the road and crashed into a large tree before coming to rest and catching on fire. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Thunder Road was shut down for an extended time. The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
Responding to the scene were Pinebluff Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the NC Highway Patrol.
