A pedestrian was hit by a Moore County Sheriff’s Department patrol car Thursday evening. The accident happened near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Johnson Street by McDonald’s.

When emergency crews arrived on scene around 9:30, they found a male victim laying in the street.  

“The pedestrian walked out in front of our deputy just north of Johnson Street in Aberdeen,” said Moore County Chief Deputy Richard Maness. “He was struck by the right side mirror.”

Both southbound lanes were immediately shut down while emergency crews treated the victim. The patient was transported by EMS to Moore Regional Hospital with reportedly non life threatening injuries.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating  the accident.

Authorities did not release the name of the injured.

Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Police, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted at the scene.
