Aberdeen Police Captain graduates from FBI National Academy

Aberdeen Police Operations Captain Shannon Darling was among 254 law enforcement officers who graduated this week from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

The 295th session of the program included representatives from 49 states and the District of Columbia, along with 22 officers from 20 foreign countries, 10 members of six U.S. military organizations, and four members of federal civilian agencies.

Internationally recognized for its academic rigor, the academy provides 10 weeks of advanced training in communication, leadership, and fitness. Since its founding in 1935, the program has graduated just over 56,000 officers.

Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Davis praised her achievement in a statement.

“I am tremendously proud of Operations Captain Shannon Darling and her successful completion of the prestigious FBI National Academy,” Chavis said. “Her achievement will not only enhance her knowledge and preparation but will also positively impact our entire department.”

Darling began her law enforcement career in Kansas City, Kansas, before joining the Aberdeen Police Department in 2017. She has served in both the Patrol and Investigations divisions and has held every rank in Investigations.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and criminology from Arizona State University, where she graduated summa cum laude. Her credentials also include an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate, a Criminal Investigations Certificate from the North Carolina Justice Academy, and completion of the Law Enforcement Executive Program at North Carolina State University.

Darling is a member of the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and serves on the Moore County Human Trafficking Task Force as well as the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Task Force. She also teaches as an adjunct instructor at Sandhills Community College.

“We are excited to have Captain Darling back, as she is a valuable part of our day-to-day operations and will continue to play a key role in helping move our department to the next level,” Chavis concluded.
