Ambulance stolen during medical call

An ambulance was stolen from Brookside Park Apartments in Southern Pines Thursday around 10 p.m.

Moore County paramedics were responding to a medical call inside the apartment complex when they heard the engine revving on the ambulance, said Southern Pines Deputy Chief Charles Campbell.

They noticed the ambulance was gone and immediately called it in.

“Luckily, we had officers nearby,” said Campbell.

Bifa Alvarez, 23, of Southern Pines, was arrested at the intersection leading into the apartments at Morganton Road and Fire Lane Avenue.

There was no damage to the ambulance, and nothing was stolen from the vehicle, said Campbell.

Alvarez was booked in Moore County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond and is charged with larceny of a stolen vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.

He will appear in court on March 3 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
