An arrest has been made in the case involving catalytic converter thefts in West End.
According to a Moore County Sheriff’s Office news release, Evan Saunders, 32, of West End, was arrested Friday on 13 charges with some of the larcenies dating back to February.
“The Moore County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division received reports of larcenies of catalytic converters from vehicles belonging to businesses in West End during the months of February and March of 2021,” said the release.
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety Probation and Post Release assisted in the case.
Saunders was charged with six counts of felony larceny of motor vehicle parts and six counts of injury to personal property. Additionally, he was served with a post release/parole warrant for arrest and is being held without bond at the Moore County Detention Center.
The suspect was arrested in January 2019 for allegedly stealing scrap metal. In June of 2020, he was arrested for allegedly stealing landscaping equipment from a West End business.
Saunders was also arrested in July of 2020 and charged with possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling place for a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance on prison/jail premises, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
His first court date for current charges is set for April 8, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
