Attempted B&E at Carthage Shooting Sports

Friday night, just after 8 p.m., Carthage Police Department was dispatched to Carthage Shooting Sports on U.S. Highway 15-501 for an attempted breaking and entering.

One of the owners and a customer were inside when they heard someone talking on the roof. A ceiling tile and some insulation had fallen and hit the floor in front of them, so they immediately called 911.

Detectives with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene. A K-9 from Southern Pines Police Department was dispatched as well, and a search of the area was conducted, but no suspect was located.

There was one set of footprints found on the roof along with a pry bar. The air conditioning unit had also been lifted up for access.

At this time, no suspect has been identified, but this is an ongoing investigation.

Carthage Fire Department responded with a ladder to assist with access to the roof for investigators.

Responding units were Carthage Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Carthage Fire Department, and Southern Pines Police Department.
