Behind the Hits with Becca Rae and friends to play at Sunrise

The Sunrise Theater presents Behind the Hits with Becca Rae and Friends to perform on the Sunrise stage on Saturday, April 8 at 7 p.m. featuring Becca Rae, Jay Knowles, Jamie Floyd, and Matt Warren. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. This performance is sponsored by The Murphy Insurance Agency and Bell Manley Properties. 

Becca Rae returns to the Sunrise Theater to host this exciting showcase of hit songwriter friends from Nashville, Tennessee. Becca Rae was a staple in the local music scene in Southern Pines for years before moving to Nashville in June 2019. After creating and hosting the “Singer-Songwriters in the Round” showcase at The Sunrise, Becca Rae was awarded “Best of The Pines” Best Local Musician- in 2017, 2018, and 2019. She is thrilled to come back to the Pines for this special event. 

In November 2019, Becca Rae was declared the grand prize winner of “Nashville Rising Song,” a competition for Nashville songwriters, for her original song, “How Lonely Looks on Me.” Since then, she has had cuts with country music recording artists including Ava Paige, Tory Grace, Michael Keys, and most notably — Megan Moroney. In June 2022, Megan Moroney released “Fix You Too,” a song she co-wrote with Becca Rae and Adam Wheeler. In August 2022, pop singer and “The Voice” alum, Jon Mullins, released “In a Second,” co-written with Becca Rae. “In a Second” quickly became his highest-streamed song to date, with over 1.2 million on Spotify alone.  Becca Rae has opened in concert for stars like Jake Hoot, Claire Dunn, Rissi Palmer, and the iconic bluegrass band Mountain Heart. She continues to write and perform regularly in Nashville.

Jay Knowles was born in Texas, raised in Tennessee and educated in Connecticut. Over the last 20 years, his songs have been recorded by classic singers like George Strait, Alan Jackson, and Harry Connick, Jr. as well as today’s hottest country stars like Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, and David Nail. Also Raffi.  Jay’s professional honors include number-one songs on multiple charts, a BMI Million Air Award, and a Grammy nomination for Country Song of the Year.

Matt Warren is a Nashville native.  In 2002, Warren made his staff writer debut when he signed a publishing deal with House of Fame in Muscle Shoals, AL. Matt’s first cut was “Puttin’ Memories Away,” co-written with Gary Allan. It was featured in Rolling Stone magazine and on the Oprah Winfrey show when Gary was her guest. In 2009 he won an ASCAP award for the top 10 hit “Learning How to Bend”.  In 2013, he received an ASCAP award for the #1 smash “Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)”, which was also nominated for the 2014 ACM song of the year.  “Love Let It Do What It Do” by Robert Randolph & the Family Band featuring Darius Rucker (co-written with Warren) was the lead single from the “Got Soul” record nominated for blues record of the year at the 2018 Grammy Awards.  Matt’s songs have been recorded by Gary Allan, Darius Rucker, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Andy Frasco & the UN, Bucky Covington, Americana music icon Jim Lauderdale, Pittsburgh blue-collar rock legend Joe Grushecky, The Voice season 17 winner Jake Hoot and many others.  Matt currently has 4 songs on the latest Gary Allan record “Ruthless”.  

As an artist, he has recorded his own songs for his 2013 solo record “Self-titled” as well as his band Papa Joe in 2001.  His latest project is his band Goodfoot.  Their debut record “Explosion of Love” is dropping in the fall of 2022.  

Jamie Floyd is a Nashville-based two-time Grammy-nominated independent songwriter & recording artist. She has written songs recorded by Kelly Clarkson, Kesha, Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, Miranda Lambert, Ronnie Dunn, Sturgill Simpson, Ingrid Andress, Brian McKnight, Wrabel, Kalie Shorr, Ty Herndon, Ashley Monroe, Madi Diaz, Jake Hoot, Cassadee Pope, Hayden Panettiere, Kellie Picker, Lucie Silvas and more.

As a touring artist, Floyd has toured nationally, including playing Stagecoach and headlining at The Washington State Fair with her band. After the independent release of her EP “New Girl,” debuted at #6 on the iTunes Country Album charts, Jamie made her Grand Ole Opry debut, opening for Metallica & Three Days Grace. The show aired in 300 cities/drive-ins across the United States and Canada as part of the Encore Drive-In Nights concert series. She was awarded 2021’s “Rising Star Award” by the Concert For Love & Acceptance, a televised charitable event organized by Ty Herndon’s Foundation for Love & Acceptance and CMT. 

She plans to tour extensively and will release new music in April of 2023.
