A self-taught entrepreneur opened Berri Bowlful in Southern Pines on Aug. 14 after operating as a food truck for three years. The new location is 215 W. Pennsylvania Ave.

Owner Bianca Pellicone said that her husband Jon and her son William, 13, have been part of the team since the beginning. Her son helps blend, clean and greet customers, and her husband literally built the truck and the store.

She has plans to source fresh produce from local farmers and order her specialty fruits from their origins in Brazil and Central America.

The most popular dish is the Broseidon Bowl which has the acai base topped with organic hemp granola, banana, strawberries, blueberries, almond butter, unsweetened organic coconut flakes, sliced almonds, cacao nibs and honey.

The interior is bright white with a countertop in marbled violets to deep purple and has an outdoor patio overlooking downtown.

Berri Bowlful is not a franchise, and Pellicone plans to hit the road in the food truck again in the future for events.

For now, the healthy choice food store is open on “soft hours” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
