The driver of a Ford Focus avoided injury after crashing his car into a wooded area Wednesday night. The single-vehicle accident happened just after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Kelly Plantation Road and Coles Mill Road near Carthage.
The young male driver was traveling on Kelly Plantation Road toward Coles Mill Road when he ran off the right shoulder of the road and lost control. The vehicle went down an embankment, narrowly missing a power pole before crashing into a wooded area and overturning. The vehicle was on its roof approximately 75 feet off the roadway.

The driver was the only occupant and was able to get out before emergency units arrived. He was checked out by EMS at the scene but refused treatment.
Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the accident but stated that it was unclear what caused the driver to lose control.
Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire Department, Moore County EMS and N.C. State Highway Patrol. Kenny’s Garage removed the vehicle.
