Carthage man's body found in Virginia

The body of a man from “Durham/Carthage, North Carolina” was found in Brodnax, Virginia, on Tuesday morning.

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the suspicious death after the department was called about a deceased man found on Route 1.

“The victim was described as a white male in is mid/late 40s or 50s and was naked and had no identifying documents and no personal effects were located in the area,” wrote the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office in a press release on Wednesday. “There was no apparent signs of any significant trauma leading to a known conclusion for cause of death at this time. It is believed that the victim died at a different location and was brought to this area by an unknown person/s. Once the body arrived in Richmond, authorities were alerted to an identification from a “fingerprint hit” and identified the victim as 52-year-old Bobby Dean Whitaker.
