Juvenile critical after Aberdeen parking lot shooting

A juvenile was left in critical condition after a shooting Sunday night in the parking lot of Going Going Gone, the former Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Aberdeen on Highway 15-501 near Johnson Street.

The initial call came in at 10:08 p.m., and the first Aberdeen officers arrived at 10:10 p.m., where they found a white male juvenile who had been shot in the abdomen and was lying on the ground in the parking lot. Officers initiated life-saving measures until EMS arrived on the scene.

The juvenile was transported by EMS to Aberdeen Fire Department Station 42, where a waiting helicopter transported him to UNC Chapel Hill. The juvenile is reportedly in critical condition.

Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis confirmed that three people were involved in an altercation when one pulled out a gun and shot the victim. The other two fled the scene in a vehicle. Aberdeen police issued a BOLO (be-on-the-lookout) for the vehicle and the suspects to law enforcement agencies.
