A Carthage man was arrested on drug and weapon charges and deputies seized 34 firearms, over 2,000 rounds of assorted ammunition, and narcotics last Friday, according to a news release from Sheriff Godfrey.

Moore County Sheriff Deputies arrested Gene Edward Needham Jr., of the 400 block of Needhams Road, after a probation search and charged him with one count of possession of a firearm by convicted felon, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance, the maintaining of a dwelling for the storage of a controlled substance and simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance.

Needham is on probation for a 2016 conviction of felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance which prohibits him from having guns.

Needham, age 52, was placed in the Moore County Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond and given a November 28th court date, according to arrest records.
