Two people from Carthage are behind bars on child abuse charges.

“The Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report of child abuse that occurred at a residence in the Carthage area of Moore County,” said Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a news release. “Upon further investigation, detectives arrested a man and woman and charged them with abuse against the 11-year-old-victim.”

Heather Brown Baxley, 28,  and Matthrew Ryan Baxley, 29, were arrested on Saturday and both were jailed under $150,000 secured bonds.

The suspects were each charged with one county of felony child abuse to inflict serious injury with mental and emotional abuse, one count of misdemeanor child abuse, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

The release did not state the relationship between the three individuals.

Each have a July 3 court date and are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
