Six individuals were arrested after a multi-agency drug operation in Carthage.

Moore County Sheriff, Neil Godfrey, said in a news release today that the individuals were arrested on Thursday after a search warrant was issued. Deputies seized 14 bindles of heroin, two grams of heroin, 26 grams of powder cocaine, 16 grams of marijuana, 43 dosage units of oxycodone, five dosage units of hydrocodone and assorted drug paraphernalia.

The total street value of the seized drugs is approximately $4,000.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Carthage Police Department, and the North Carolina Department of Community Corrections were involved in the operation.

Godfrey named the suspects as Jamil Ismail, 33, Wilbert Merritt, 52, Rasool Salahuddin, 19, Alwakil Salahuddin, 24, James McKeithen, 57, Brittany Dawn Yarbrough, 30.  Ismail, Merritt,  McKeithen, and Yarbrough are from Carthage.   Rasool Salahuddin and Alwakil Salahuddin are from New Jersey.

Deputies charged Ismail and Merritt with possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, the possession of cocaine, possession with the intent to sell and deliver heroin, the possession of heroin, the possession of marijuana, two counts of maintaining a vehicle for the storage of a controlled substance, the possession of marijuana-paraphernalia and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Mckeithen was charged with the trafficking of opium, possession with the intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance, possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for the storage of a controlled-substances, the possession of marijuana-paraphernalia and the possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rasool Salahuddin and  Alwakil Salahuddin both were charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, the possession of cocaine, the possession of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for the storage of a controlled substance, the possession of marijuana-paraphernalia and the possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the news release.

Yarbrough was charged with possession of marijuana and the possession of marijuana-paraphernalia.

Merritt was placed under a $250,000 secured bond.  Rasool Salahuddin and  Alwakil Salahuddin both were placed under $75,000 secured bonds.  Ismail was placed under a $30,000 secured bond, and Yarbrough was placed under a $1,500 secured bond.

All six suspects have a February 13th court date, according to the news release.

This is the second undercover drug operation in Moore County.  Four Georgia people were arrested on Sunday for trafficking meth.  The operation resulted in $64,000 of drugs being taken off the streets.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
