Dirt bike crashes during police pursuit in Robbins

A man riding a dirt bike led officers on a brief pursuit before crashing in Robbins Tuesday evening.

Officers reportedly attempted to make a traffic stop at the intersection of Bellevue Road and Plank Road for failing to stop at a stop sign. Robbins Police Chief Ben Haddock told Sandhills Sentinel that the chase went down several streets before the bike crashed behind the old car wash on Highway 705.

The man initially attempted to enter a wooded area on the bike, but ultimately led Robbins Police Officers and Moore County Sheriff Deputies on a brief foot pursuit in the woods.

The man, whom Chief Haddock identified as James Earle Williams Jr., was taken to Moore Regional Hospital by Moore County EMS, where he is being checked for injuries before being booked in the Moore County Detention Center.

A firearm and a Schedule IV-controlled substance were allegedly found during the incident.

Williams is facing the following charges: flee and elude officers, two counts of possession of concealed weapons (knife and gun), possession of a firearm by a felon, reckless driving with endangerment, four counts of resisting a police officer, and multiple vehicle regulatory violations.

No officers were hurt during the incident.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
