Shortly after 6:30 p.m., first responders received a call alerting them to a single-vehicle crash on Union Church Road and arrived to discover that the driver of the vehicle had fled the site of the wreck, leaving behind a rolled Pontiac and a field of debris.
According to authorities on the scene, the male driver of a Pontiac had been traveling on Union Church Road when he lost control of the vehicle and veered from the road, causing the car to roll before coming to a stop on its roof near the tree line.
The man then exited the vehicle and fled the scene. After a brief search, he was located and apprehended by law enforcement. He was then transported via Moore County EMS after requesting treatment.
No contributing factors regarding the cause of the crash were given at this time. Authorities told Sandhills Sentinel that they are currently looking further into the story that the driver relayed to law enforcement. The investigation is still ongoing.
The Pontiac sustained heavy all over damage as a result of the crash. First responders diverted traffic around the wreck while they worked to clear a large field of debris and shattered glass that littered the roadway and embankment around the vehicle.
